MSP for Clydesdale, Aileen Campbell, has welcomed the announcement that five groups in Clydesdale are to receive grants from the Big Lottery Fund.

Communities across Scotland are benefiting from the Awards for All scheme that provides between ?500 and ?10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.

St Athanasius' Primary School of Carluke faces success with a ?7000 grant to provide children with an outdoor learning space and the chance to organise a community art project. With this grant, an outdoor classroom can be constructed and artist fees and materials can be paid for.

Under the Awards for All scheme, Outside The Box - a project dedicated to helping parents in Lanarkshire set up community groups - also benefit with a grant of nearly ?10,000. After applying for awards, Law OAP Welfare Association, NeighWhips Communities and girl guide organisation, Abbeygreen District, have also received a boost, allowing them to carry their ideas and projects forward.

Commenting on the announcement, Aileen said:

"I am delighted to congratulate all five groups on their successes in their grant applications.

"With more than ?40,000 being spent between the Clydesdale groups, it is clear that their work is making a really positive impact.

"It’s great to see groups in Clydesdale are putting the effort in to make their communities safer, healthier and more inclusive because the Awards for All scheme is all about widening access and breaking down barriers of inequality.

"I am excited to see how each project gets on and would take this opportunity to urge the people of Clydesdale to get in touch with the Big Lottery Fund if they have any project ideas for their local area."
