Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell visited New Beginnings Clydesdale to find out more about the organisation’s work to bring practical help to local people coming through homelessness or facing hardship.

The Christian organisation, which runs its operations from Carluke but has outreach centres across Clydesdale, provide basic support to people in a time of crisis. Local residents are able to access different support packs which include food, toiletries and household items.

New Beginnings also work in conjunction with South Lanarkshire Council, Citizens Advice Bureau and other agencies to ensure they assist as many people as possible and to help the development of the delivery of the project.

Commenting on her visit, Aileen Campbell said:

"It was a real eye opener visiting New Beginnings Clydesdale today. The organisation undertakes fantastic work to support local people who find themselves in a time of crisis.

"Unfortunately in the 21st century we still have people, who often, due to circumstances outwith their control, may be struggling to provide basic needs for their family such food or toiletries.

"From my visit it was obvious to the see passion and dedication of the volunteers to support local people in need with dignity and respect, and though I wish there was not a need for this service, they deserve real credit for their work in the community.

New Beginnings Clydesdale Convenor, Mary McLellan said:

"Our logo shows an acorn lying below an oak tree - little did we think when we set up New Beginnings 6 years ago that it would grow so quickly.

"We ask the residents of Clydesdale to help those in need - and they come up trumps every time! We couldn't do the job without them and so I would like to offer a huge thanks to those who support us and an even bigger thanks to the volunteers who give of their time and talents unstintingly."
