Clydesdale’s MSP Aileen Campbell has sent her congratulations to Strathaven after its park is awarded a prestigious Green Flag. The Green Flag Award is the benchmark for a quality green space and is administrated by the charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Flags are awarded after being judged against eight criteria testing whether the park or green space is: welcoming; healthy, safe and secure; clean and well-maintained; sustainable; manages conservation and heritage; has community involvement; markets itself, and has good management.

On the announcement of the award Aileen said:

"Congratulations to Strathaven on this fantastic award. The Park is such a lovely space and the people of the town must be so proud.

"Credit must be given to the park managers who oversee its maintenance, throughout the year, but also the local volunteers who give up their own time to tend it.

"Strathaven Park now joins an exclusive list, with the likes of Glasgow's Botanic Gardens and Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh.

"Well done Strathaven, it’s a great achievement - in fact it’s blooming marvellous".
