I am aware that constituents are again being distressed by fireworks at this time of year.
While legislation on the sale of fireworks is reserved to Westminster, we need to discuss how fireworks are sold.
The Scottish Parliament has also set up a review group which will look at restrictions to the use of fireworks on private property across Scotland, and changes to the times at which fireworks can be set off. It can also look at options for potential no-fireworks zones.
The review group was announced last week as part of our fireworks action plan, which will also develop guidance for community groups on how to set up safe fireworks displays.
Our recent consultation showed overwhelming public support for a change in how fireworks are sold and used. Hopefully in the future there will not be so many nights of random, unexpected, explosions in streets and back gardens!
