Following the announcement today that the appeal lodged by Patersons of Greenoakhill Ltd for the extraction of sand and gravel at Overburns Farm has been dismissed by the Scottish Government, I applaud the local people who have campaigned against the plans over so many years.

As Clydesdale’s MSP, I have always sought to ensure the voices of my constituents and the local campaign group are heard.

For over 10 years these plans, for a beauty spot near Lamington, have attracted over 1000 objections and have seen the local community repeatedly needing to summon the strength to object to all the attempts by Patersons to get their application through the planning process.

I am pleased the Scottish Government has dismissed this latest appeal. This result will bring great relief to the local community and others who have dug deep to fight this.

I hope Patersons now take heed of this latest refusal, listen to the community who have consistently said they do not want this quarry, and do not bring back any further applications.
