SNP MSP for Clydesdale, Aileen Campbell has commended the Electoral Commission on their launch of a public awareness campaign for young voters.

Launching at the beginning of August, the ‘ARE YOU #IN’ campaign seeks to register 16 and 17 year olds to vote by encouraging schools to host registration sessions this week (7-11 September).

Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell added her support to the campaign, urging more young people to use their vote.

Commenting, she said:

"We saw a remarkable expression of political engagement last year with 110,000 over 16 and 17 year olds use their vote in the referendum. The election of the Scottish Parliament next year is another great opportunity for young people to place their vote and see for themselves how they can influence political decision making.

"This is a fantastic chance for young people to contribute to the future of our country, as they deserve to do. Signing up to vote is simple and those of any age should not hesitate to do so - it takes just a few minutes online at

"I would like to take this opportunity to encourage schools in Clydesdale to participate in this registration campaign for young voters. It’s a good way for pupils to support and encourage their peers to also take up this invaluable democratic right."
