MSP Aileen Campbell has welcomed the announcement of safety improvement proposals at a stretch of road in Lesmahagow, which is an accident blackspot.

In July, two young local people suffered fatal injuries when their car collided with a wall on the B7078 at Parks Corner.

Another tragedy occurred as recently as Monday 23 September when a pedestrian was struck and fatally injured on the same road, near to junction 10 of the motorway.

Responding Aileen said:

"My heart continues to go out to the families of these young people, who died in these recent tragic accidents.

"I am very pleased the Council is to introduce measures to help reduce the likelihood of further tragedies in the future.

"On behalf of my constituents I have been corresponding with the SLC regarding this stretch of road. I also know that Lesmahagow community council and many other local people have been very active in pressing the Council to look at safety improvements.

"Today (27 September) I received a response from the Council stating that, in conjunction with Police Scotland, a review has been carried out and that a number of safety proposals made.

"I applaud the efforts of the local community who have helped bring us to this point and like them look forward to seeing these measures progressed".
