MSP for Clydesdale, Aileen Campbell, has applauded the continued dedication of the Scottish Government to tackle unemployment and boost the economy.?

?The latest labour market statistics have shown that Scotland has the highest rates of employment and youth employment in the UK.?

?With the number of employed people in Scotland rising by 6,000 in the last quarter, the country sees the highest rate of employment in five years. This leaves Scotland’s unemployment rate at 7.4%, meanwhile the UK falls behind at 7.7%.?

?Commenting on these latest figures, Aileen said:?

?"These figures show just how committed the Scottish Government is on reducing unemployment.?

?"It is really encouraging to see that youth employment is on the rise too, showing the successes of work, education and training opportunities for young people in Scotland. ?But the foot will not come off the pedal and we need to ensure young people in Clydesdale are as equipped and given every opportunity to enter the world of work. That's why I hosted a jobs fair in Lanark and was pleased to welcome Youth Employment Minister, Angela Constance to open it.

?"The government's focus on employment will continue as the latest budget brings in more investment to boost Scotland’s economy?

?"It is clear that Scotland is able to succeed with more powers. With powers of an independent country, even more could be done to create jobs and further opportunities for young people".?
