Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell is calling on young people throughout Clydesdale to apply to become a Young Placemaker.

The Young Placemaker campaign is run by Planning Aid for Scotland, the independent and impartial organisation which enables communities to engage more effectively with planning.

The initiative aims to recruit a network of 12 youngsters who will champion active citizenship and create a stronger voice for young people in the planning system. Giving youngsters more influence and involvement in how planning shapes their communities.

Speaking in the Scottish Parliament, Aileen Campbell said:

"This is a very worthwhile initiative by Planning Aid for Scotland and I’d encourage as many young people as possible from Clydesdale to apply.

"Planning can have a huge influence on they way we live and how our communities develop, and this campaign will help get more young people involved in the decision making process.

"Anyone between 16-20 who is interested in applying to become a Young Placemaker should go to www.youngplacemakers.com."

Petra Biberbach, Chief Executive of Planning Aid for Scotland, added:

"Young people are the missing piece in the planning jigsaw. They are currently disengaged with the process of planning and development, which plays a vital role in shaping the villages, towns, cities and country in which they will live, work and raise their family."

Kyle Thornton MSYP said:

"As a Community Councillor and elected MSYP, I know how important planning can be in shaping the places where we live. I'd encourage every young person to check out the details, apply to be a placemaker and make a real difference in their local communities."
