Following the announcement by Scottish Coal that it has entered liquidation with the loss of nearly 600
jobs - with 191 posts at the Broken Cross site to go - Aileen Campbell said:

"This is devastating news for everyone affected, including the workers’ families and communities in Clydesdale. It is a situation I hoped could have been avoided.

"I have been in close contact with the Scottish Government since news of restructuring was first announced and will continue to work with everyone to minimise the impacts of this deeply sad news.

"Minister Fergus Ewing and the Scottish Government are doing all they can to help to work towards a sustainable future, including working with the liquidators to try to help find a way forward which can allow the mining operations to continue."
