Aileen Campbell is encouraging young Clydesdalers, who think they’ve got what it takes, to become a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

The next elections for the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) will be taking place across Scotland in March 2013 and it’s now looking for young people, across the nation, who are aged between 14 and 25, to be candidates and represent their areas as Members of the Youth Parliament (MSYP).

Nominations for the Clydesdale constituency area are now open and young people can register their interest online at . Potential candidates in South Lanarkshire will have until 18 January to put themselves forward.

Aileen commented:

"The Youth Parliament is a fantastic institution that has achieved so much since it first sat back in 1999.

"The qualities you need to be a MSYP are passion and a commitment to help make a difference for Scotland’s young people.

"I had the pleasure of attending one of the SYP’s campaign launches a couple of years ago, when I was really struck by the enthusiasm, hard work and dedication of the members. The Parliament really is something that empowers young people by truly involving them in the decision making process.

"I would encourage any of my young constituents, to put their names forward and maybe take a seat in the Youth Parliament next year!"
