Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell added her support to Dogs Trust’s famous campaign "A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas" in a bid to help combat the problem of dogs being abandoned after the festive period.

Aileen joined MSPs in learning more about the extent of the problem in the UK - Dogs Trust deals with 16,000 abandoned and unwanted dogs a year - and by raising awareness of the issue during the festive period they hope to curb the problem across the UK.

Speaking in The Scottish Parliament, Aileen Campbell said:

"I am really pleased to support the Dogs Trust in their campaign to remind people that a dog really is for life and not just for Christmas.

"Most of us are familiar with this campaign, but figures show that dogs are still being bought as Christmas presents then abandoned soon after.

"Being a dog owner is a long-term commitment and the Dogs Trust wants people to think twice before buying a dog or puppy as a present this Christmas."
