Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell has added her backing to the Scottish Government’s ?3 million investment in the third sector to help thousands of youngsters in Lanarkshire and across Scotland into work.

Twenty-four projects across Scotland, including Rathbone and Routes to Work South Lanarkshire have received funding in the latest round of investment from the Third Sector and Social Enterprise Challenge Fund. Both organisations have a presence in Clydesdale. The money will help give over 2,000 young people the chance to improve their employability. ?

Rathbone has received a major investment of ?249,759 from the fund while South Lanarkshire Council’s Routes to Work scheme, which assists youngsters in the region to gain employment or training, has secured ?71,399 of funding.?

Commenting, Aileen Campbell said:?

"This is excellent news for Lanarkshire and it will have a real positive impact on the lives of many young people in the region.? I have consistently made the case that young people in rural Clydesdale have particular needs that are different to those in the more urban parts of the authority and I hope Clydesdale benefits from this cash boost and I will press for this to be the case.

"I know Rathbone very well and know and understand the work it carries out in Lanark and the surrounding areas. When I had a meeting with the youth employment minister I told her about the issues facing Clydesdale's young people and the valuable work Rathbone and other employment groups do in the area. ?

"Routes to Work has an important role in the region matching young people with the right employers or training, giving advice and helping them access services and this funding will greatly assist their work. ?

"This fund forms part of a unique guarantee to 16 to 19-year-olds that all will be offered a place in training or education and I am also very pleased the Scottish Government funding will help projects which operate in Clydesdale."
