Aileen Campbell, MSP for Clydesdale, has hailed the Scottish Government’s announcement of new weekday rail services between Clydesdale, Glasgow and Edinburgh as a victory for the constituency.

The new timetable introduces seven additional services calling at Carstairs and Carluke stations, providing a significant boost to local rail provision and greater integration with Scotland’s largest cities. A new late evening train from Motherwell to Edinburgh will also stop at Carstairs. All new services will be introduced in December, a year ahead of schedule.

Commenting on the announcement, Aileen Campbell said:

"This is fantastic news for Clydesdale and a victory for the constituency. Since my election last year, I have made transport a top priority and campaigned hard for extra rail services, particularly eastbound to Edinburgh.

"The Scottish Government’s investment in Clydesdale improves connections with both of our largest cities, enabling my constituents to travel between them more quickly and more easily.

"The fact that the Government has chosen to act in this way, ahead of schedule, shows it is prioritising rail network improvements. In my representations to the Transport Minister I have stressed the critical role Clydesdale has to play in those improvements, and I am delighted he has clearly listened."
