Aileen Campbell, constituency MSP for Clydesdale has welcomed the launch of a series of workshops to help embryo and young businesses in Lanarkshire. The events are being run by Business Gateway.

Business Gateway, a publicly funded service in Scotland, offers assistance and advice to people starting up or growing their businesses.

The workshops which are taking place over the next 6 weeks are free and places can be booked online or by phone.

For budding entrepreneurs a Business Start Up Awareness Seminar will be held at the Barnscluith Business Centre, Hamilton on 23 August and 13 and 27 September.

A series of more specialist workshops covering areas such as Understanding Financial Statements to Funding the Business, will take place at the Atrium Business Centre in Coatbridge during September.

Aileen said:

"Today’s start up and young businesses really are the engine room of tomorrow’s economy and this series of seminars and workshops is very welcome.

"Business Gateway provides an invaluable service offering professional resources, support and tools to help both start-up and existing businesses learn new skills, create new opportunities and develop strategies for growth.

"Within the limitations of the powers we currently have, the Scottish Government is working tirelessly to strengthen the economy. And its focus is delivering results - Scotland has had a reducing unemployment rate for the last 5 months.

"The Scottish Government's Economic Strategy aims to drive sustainable economic growth and develop a more resilient and adaptable economy. Ensuing the availability of effective publicly funded business support, with partners such as Business Gateway, is a crucial part of it.

"We have some great businesses in Clydesdale and I never fail to be impressed by their commitment and determination. I would encourage anyone thinking of starting a business in the constituency or those who are in the early stages of developing their enterprise to take full advantage of these opportunities. In the meantime, I will be contacting the organisers to see if the next series can be held in Clydesdale itself.
