Clydesdale Constituency MSP Aileen Campbell has welcomed the announcement that a Scottish Government backed funding model is set to deliver 600 new homes across Lanarkshire over the next four years. Around half will be affordable homes for rent.

The initiative aimed at boosting the availability of affordable homes has been unveiled by Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment, Alex Neil.

The model developed by Clyde Valley Housing Association, working with property company Savills, will see the Scottish Government contribute ?11 million, with the remainder of the ?60 million project funded through private equity and loan finance.

Commenting on the announcement Aileen said:

"This is excellent news and I am delighted that the Scottish Government is supporting this innovative approach to delivering much needed affordable housing across Lanarkshire.

"It is anticipated this project will also provide a real boost to the local economies. It is estimated that over 150 job or training opportunities are expected to be created through a mix of modern apprenticeships and work placement opportunities.

"The Scottish Government is committed to building 6000 affordable homes in Scotland every single year, providing good quality housing to people across the country. With Scotland’s budget being so savagely cut by Westminster, I’m sure this innovative model will be looked at by other parts of the country.

"I understand that the locations for the new developments has yet to be confirmed and as Constituency MSP for Clydesdale I look forward to liaising with the developers as the project moves forward".
