Commenting on the decision by South Lanarkshire Council’s Planning Committee to reject the application for a sand and gravel quarry at Overburns Farm, near Lamington, Clydesdale MSP

Aileen Campbell said:
"As constituency MSP for Clydesdale I am pleased South Lanarkshire Council have listened to local opinion and refused the planning application for a quarry at Overburns. ?

?"Throughout, as a local MSP, I have made my objections clear to this proposal and liaised closely with CRAG and the local community to ensure that my constituents were heard during this lengthy process. The arguments they made were clear from the outset - the potential environmental impact of the proposed development outweighed any economic benefits associated with it.?

"CRAG and all of its supporters must be applauded for the evidence based, determined and co-ordinated manner they have approached the campaign.?

?"I hope Paterson’s Quarries will finally listen to the council’s recommendations and not make any further attempts to return with revised plans for this site."?
